Why am I encountering a duplicate SSN error during my application process for Shifts, and what steps should I take next?

This error indicates that your Social Security Number (SSN) is already associated with an existing account in our system. We permit only one account per Worker, and you have likely previously created an account on GigSmart. 

Be careful! Providing a different (i.e. inaccurate or fraudulent) SSN to bypass the error will result in the permanent account removal of all related accounts.

Resolving Duplicate Account Issues: Your Guide to Account Recovery

Don't worry! Based on what we hear from users, these errors are highly unlikely to be due to actual identity theft, but rather stem from users having created multiple accounts or forgetting previous account registrations. The fastest and most effective solution is to locate and access your original account.

How to Locate Your Original Account

To quickly resolve this, focus on finding and logging into your existing account rather than creating a new one.

  • Check Your Email Records:
    • Search all your email inboxes (current and old) for messages from GigSmart, particularly welcome emails, password resets, or shift confirmations.
    • Use keywords like "GigSmart," "welcome," "shifts," or "account."
  • Try Different Email Addresses:
    • Recall which email addresses you might have used when first signing up, including personal, work, or school accounts.

What If You Can't Access Your Original Email Account?

If you've identified the email associated with your original GigSmart account but can no longer access that email:

  • Contact Your Email Provider Directly: This is the fastest way to regain access. They can help you:
    • Recover your email account.
    • Reset your email password.
    • Verify your identity.

This step typically allows you to quickly regain access to both your email and, consequently, your GigSmart account.

Important: Avoid Creating Additional Accounts

Creating new accounts can complicate and delay the resolution of your access issue. Note: Providing a different (i.e. fraudulent) SSN to bypass the error will result in permanent account removal of all related accounts.

  • If you've already created a new account by mistake:
    • Please delete the duplicate profile as soon as possible.
    • Deleting it will free up the associated phone number and email, preventing conflicts and simplifying original account recovery.
