How do I cancel a worker who didn't work my shift?
Learn the difference between a no-show and a late arrival, and what canceling or excusing a worker actually does.
If a worker doesn't complete your Shift, GigSmart gives you a couple of ways to handle it depending on what actually happened. Here's how to tell the difference between a no-show and a late arrival, and what each option does.
Was the worker a no-show?
A worker is a no-show if they never arrive at the Shift or check in at all. If you don't cancel a no-show worker yourself, they'll automatically be canceled at the Shift's end time and you won't be charged.
Did the worker arrive too late?
Every Shift has a Latest Arrival Time, the cutoff you set for how late a worker can arrive and still work the Shift. If a worker hasn't checked in or started their clock by that time, they'll be marked as Late. Once a worker is marked Late, you can choose to start their clock if they eventually show up, or cancel them using the "Worker arrived too late" cancellation reason.
What happens when you cancel for either reason?
You won't be charged a cancellation fee whether you cancel a worker for not showing up or for arriving too late.
Should I excuse the absence?
After you mark a worker as a no-show, or if a worker cancels themselves within 10 hours of the Shift's start time, you'll be prompted to excuse the absence or leave it unexcused.
Excusing matters most if you have the Block worker Setting turned on: unexcused absences can result in the worker being automatically blocked from your Organization, while excused ones won't count against them. If you don't review a late self-cancellation within two business days, it will automatically be marked unexcused.
